| About Cheryl Cheryl McKnight's trademark style is a blend of attention to detail and an uncanny eye for pleasing compositions. She has a love of all things crusty and peely, and a way of elevating common objects to fine art status. Cheryl always enjoyed art. In high school, her art teacher encouraged her to nurture her creative talent, and sure enough, Cheryl found ways to express herself creatively. From her days as a newlywed, taking in sewing and creating custom baby layettes for a specialty store, Cheryl moved on to antiques and good junk, offering her finds in several local antique malls from 2000-2004. With their two children, Valerie and Brandon, grown and on their own, Cheryl and her husband, Steve had just begun planning the farmhouse of their dreams, which was to be situated on a rolling piece of land outside Sanger, Texas, when rounds of corporate layoffs prompted them to put their plans on hold. Suddenly, Cheryl found herself in need of a new project. Already a confirmed junker, who shops open-air flea markets and neighborhood trash day with the same sure eye and cheery enthusiasm, and with a faithful following of customers from her years in the malls, it made perfect sense that she should open her own store. Cheryl's Cottage was a success from the beginning. Customers kept coming back for good junk, unique furniture, or that perfect gift. And every time they did, the cottage looked different. Pretty soon, it got so people would stop in just to wander around for a minute and absorb the good feelings the cottage evoked. As much as Cheryl loved her store, the grueling retail hours were beginning to take their toll on her. With precious little time for gardening, or junking, or decorating her own home, Cheryl eventually found the time had come to reinvent the cottage concept. And then Rikki walked in with a wild idea. One week later, The Cottage Junk Co. was born. |
